East Guelph Skin Clinic
Frequently asked questions.
Questions about your consultation, treatment options and connected care.
Your consultation
No. Select “I’m not sure yet” on the request form and describe your concern briefly.
Your questions, a list of current medications, relevant health information and details of any previous treatments to the area.
Not necessarily. The first appointment is for assessment and discussion. Whether treatment can follow on the same day depends on the service.
The cost of the proposed plan is set out before you agree to treatment, along with what it includes.
It follows your assessment and the proposed treatment. There is no standard number that applies to everyone.
Yes. A consultation does not commit you to treatment.
Medical Skin Care
Mole, skin growth and skin cancer assessment
The growth should first be assessed to establish what it is. That finding helps determine whether removal is appropriate and which approach can be considered.
Yes. Include it in your inquiry. Assessment comes before deciding whether treatment is suitable.
Medical Skin Care
Eczema, dermatitis and rash care
Bring photographs of a flare-up and notes about when it occurred. These can help explain the pattern.
No. Several conditions can cause itching and inflammation. Assessment helps distinguish between them.
Medical Skin Care
Acne and rosacea care
Scars can be discussed during the assessment. Managing active acne is often an important first step before planning treatment for remaining texture changes.
Bring a list or photographs of the products and medications you use, including treatments that caused irritation or did not help.
Medical Skin Care
Psoriasis care
Yes. Joint pain, swelling or morning stiffness can be relevant to psoriasis care and should be discussed.
Yes. Describe the scaling, irritation and any treatments you have tried. Scalp symptoms can have different causes, so assessment comes first.
Facial Aesthetics
Neuromodulator injections
Neuromodulators act on muscle activity. Fillers add volume in selected areas. They address different concerns.
Yes. Explain the change you want and what you would prefer to preserve. The assessment should establish whether those expectations are realistic.
Facial Aesthetics
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers
No. Assessment may identify a different approach or establish that filler is unlikely to achieve the change you want.
Yes. Share the treatment area, approximate date and product if known, even if the procedure took place elsewhere.
Facial Aesthetics
Microneedling
No. Microneedling uses fine needles, while laser treatments use light energy. Suitability depends on your skin and the concern being treated.
No. Different scar types may need different approaches. Assessment helps establish what microneedling may reasonably offer.
Facial Aesthetics
Chemical peels
The choice depends on your concern, skin characteristics and relevant history, balanced against the potential benefits and risks.
You may receive instructions about products to pause or use before and after treatment. Follow the guidance for your specific plan.
Laser Treatments
Laser hair removal
Your skin tone, hair colour and thickness, the treatment area and any current tan help guide whether laser hair removal may be appropriate. Device choice and the risk of burns or pigment changes also need discussion. Very light, grey or red hair may respond poorly.
Mention any recent waxing, plucking, tanning or new medications. Specific instructions before treatment are given once a plan is agreed.
You should leave the consultation knowing what degree of reduction is realistic for your hair and skin, how progress will be reviewed and what happens if hair regrows.
Laser Treatments
Sun damage and brown spots
Mention it when you get in touch. A spot that has changed in size, shape or colour, or that bleeds or itches, should be medically assessed before any cosmetic treatment is considered.
When you first noticed the spots, any changes you have seen, previous treatments, the products you use and your current medications.
It depends on the type of pigmentation and on sun exposure afterwards. Ongoing sun protection is usually part of the plan.
Laser Treatments
Skin tightening
No. Non-surgical skin tightening may help with milder changes, but it does not produce the same degree of change as surgery.
Your starting point, skin quality and the area being treated. The clinician should explain the expected degree of change in relation to your own skin.
The plan should state how and when results will be reviewed, so you can judge the change against what was discussed at the start.
Laser Treatments
Laser vein treatment
Symptoms like these, or large bulging veins, need a medical assessment rather than a cosmetic one. Mention them when you get in touch so the right route can be discussed.
Generally small, superficial veins whose appearance is the concern. The assessment confirms whether yours fall within the scope of the service.
Where the veins are, how long you have noticed them, any symptoms and any previous assessments or treatments.
Laser Treatments
Stretch mark reduction
Yes. Newer and older marks can respond differently, which affects the proposed approach and the change that is realistic.
The type and location of the marks, your skin and your goals. The plan should set out the method, how progress is measured and what it would cost.
In terms of colour and texture, compared with how the marks look at the start, rather than as a promise of removal.
Beyond Skin Care
Sometimes. Hormonal changes can contribute to acne, but they aren't the only cause. We consider your symptoms and medical history when discussing suitable care. If further assessment may help, we can explore relevant options through East Guelph Family Health Group. Not everyone needs testing.
Yes. Some health conditions and hormonal changes can affect your skin. Understanding your wider health can help identify whether additional assessment or care may be relevant.
Not necessarily. Many skin concerns can be assessed without laboratory testing. When your symptoms suggest a need to investigate further, we can discuss appropriate options through our broader healthcare community.
Absolutely. You're welcome to share concerns you think may be connected to your skin. Our team can help you understand whether additional medical assessment may be worth considering.
Your concern comes before the procedure. We assess your skin, discuss suitable options and explain realistic results, risks and costs before you decide. If your needs extend beyond skin care, we can also discuss relevant care through East Guelph Family Health Group.
